Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. My students choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, they are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as at different tables, standing or sitting desks. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. Studies show that when students have ownership in their seating, they are more involved in their learning. I have seen first hand how flexible seating gives a positive atmosphere in our classroom and I hope these additions to our options will help enhance that even more.
