  • Social-Emotional Growth

    Funded Nov 27, 2023

I want to thank you for your generous donation. The supplies you have provided have enabled my students to engage in therapeutic activities with much comfort and enthusiasm. The students here have experienced challenges with their mental health that have not easily been accessible outside of school until now. When my students recognized that they were able to access the investment you provided for them brought them great joy and appreciation. My students are easily accustomed to receiving intensive support with their mental health. To witness your donations with their own eye brought excitement and enthusiasm to engage in session. In addition to that, your donation permitted the office space to have a welcoming, safe atmosphere.

Essentially you made an investment in their ability to experience a safe space where they can ground themselves to feel like a genuine kid. My students love anything that activates their individuality and perspective during our sessions. Through that engagement, students and I are able to make gradual progress toward making a better future for themselves and their level of self-awareness, growth mindset, and positive feelings. Best of all, the materials within our sessions enable students to develop a shift in perspective from their previous assumptions and stigmas about what therapy is and what it looks like. In essence, we can not thank you enough for the contributions you have made to allow us to create a safe and pleasant atmosphere for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gutierrez

  • Safe Space For Student Growth

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Thanks to your investment our space has become a much more inclusive and enjoyable environment. My students' eyes widened with excitement when they saw the new items that were available for them to use. More importantly, the items that you generously allowed us to have enabled my students to feel safe, heard, and free to express themselves in a non-judgemental environment. Up to this point my students have been able to increase their level of emotional regulation, increase their level of self-awareness in terms of recognizing their strengths and understanding what matters they are able to control. For example, I have one student who was constantly shy to speak up and show any expression. Once they was able to utilize some of the kinesthetic-texturized items that you provided, this student was able to develop a greater sense of comfort and control in managing their anxiety week by week. The student told me that the items allow them to feel present and feel focused when they used some of the items as they spoke which is a huge step for them. They have been able to feel a bit more confident and show their personality with others instead of feeling like an outcast. We are very thankful to have been granted this opportunity and to be able to make an impact in our student's educational experience!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gutierrez

This classroom project was brought to life by an Anonymous Classroom Supporter and one other donor.
At the U of U the students will get a campus tour and meet university faculty to gather information about the positive outcomes that can arise from obtaining a degree, and the scholarships, programs, freedoms, and responsibility that come with the opportunity for college. This will also provide a different classroom experience for them to see that classes can be much more diverse in a college setting. The visit to the correction center will be guided by an officer, and the students will have a safe environment to see living conditions and privileges of inmates, and be able to ask questions about life in jail. We have had several students state that they plan on ending up in jail, just for the experience. The purpose will be to let the students see the negative long-term consequences that their life choices will result in if they make poor life choices, and also building a positive relationship with the officers that guide the tour who make sure to make this a non-judgmental experience. Both of these trips had significant impact on our students last year, and helped them to see their potential and open their eyes to what they want. Students and parents have shared excitement for this opportunity and have gone out of the way to say that they think this is a game-changing experience for their child.
