I have a desperate need to have my classroom meet the basic requirements of being self-sustaining and efficient! Allow me to explain!
As a teacher of 136 students, my mind is pulled 10,000,000 directions everyday. 6th grade students are in a phase of their lives that sees them changing from children, into teenagers! My goal is to make this transition as empathetic as possible. However, I am often stressed because I do not have the supplies to do so. My District did not purchase Social Studies textbooks this year, so we have to print many of our resources, leading to us rapidly running out of ink AND out of paper! In short, I desperately need both. My paycheck cannot be stretched much more!
The scanner I am requesting helps in two different ways! First, I grade every single assignment, I place those grades in my paper grader, I place those grades in PowerSchool, and then I use the "Notes" application on my phone to scan every single Paper. And yes, I do mean EVERY. SINGLE. PAPER. This way, should anything go wrong technologically or on the student's end, I have backups of backups, and I have covered all of my bases. Scanning these documents consumes anywhere from 2-3 hours of many of my evenings. I have to scan because I teach very vulnerable, urban students who often have home lives that contribute to their minds being so scattered. My scanned copies ensure my students do not lose their work credit and that they are not punished for adolescence. These scans have saved many of my students unnecessary stress on an already stressed, adolescent mind.
It is my sincere hope that you will consider my request as a genuine plea for empathy and grace.
Warmest regards,
Joshua Wylie
