A Picture Worth a Thousand Words
Funded Sep 20, 2023Thank you all so much for your donations in making this happen. So many of my students got to use cameras like this for the first time and watching them be so excited over it was something amazing to behold.
I remember when I first told them that I had created this project on DonorsChoose and they had so many questions, but ultimately were very excited to try it out. Most of my students have only ever taken photos using their cell phones so having access to different types of cameras, especially polaroids, was quite the experience.
These cameras were crucial to our photography unit in our Yearbook class this year. After going over the principles of photography, we got to work exploring this new tech. Having polaroid cameras really helped to teach my students the value of a photo and how to make every photo count since we didn't have the ability to check our work and delete it if we didn't like the outcome. It helped to teach them patience and to ensure that they were effectively using our photography principles so that every photo came out perfect. The kids we're so excited to use these cameras that a few of them even went out and purchased their own film to continue practicing in their free time.
Again, I want to thank you all so much for your donations. Without you this would not have been possible. Now we have these cameras for the next few years of students to enjoy.”

Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for your donations that allowed my students to experience photography and learn about how cameras function. Without your support, this never would have been possible and our yearbook would not have been as impressive as it is.
I often see so many students check out when it comes to elective courses but the minute the students found out, I saw each and every one of their faces light up (all 31 of them). So many of our students are interested in the arts and this class and these cameras allowed them to explore new possibilities further. Students were so attentive when we were studying the ins and outs of photography and what makes a good photo. Once we went over the basics they were out the door exploring the school testing these newfound skills out.
This was the very first year that we were able to make this class possible and it would not have been nearly as successful without the cameras that were purchased using your kind donations. Thank you all again so much, my students are forever grateful. Can't wait to see what the next class does with this!”

Funded Sep 6, 2020I just want to start off by saying thank you all so much for your donations. We started off the school year without knowing much of what it would look like due to covid and with your kindness we were able to make sure that our students were fully prepared and protected while being in the building.
Many of the supplies that you helped pay for went towards PPE and cleaning supplies for the students, their desks and chairs, their computers and headphones, and the classrooms in general. Each student had access to their own hand sanitizer and we had plenty of masks on hand to provide to them and their families at home of they needed it. Having these items in place before the students arrived for their first day really helped put them at ease about being inside the school building during such unknown and uneasy times.
The students were thankful for all of the things you were able to help us provide them with. The extra cleaning supplies for their individual spaces was probably one of the best things you could have helped us provide them with. Students were excited to be back in the building but definitely felt much safer knowing that they had these items at their disposal. The other items that we were able to purchase like pens, pencils, high lighters, post-it notes, etc. were also huge helps in the classroom during the short time we were all together in the building. It allowed students to not have to bring their items back and forth from their homes to the building thus limiting their exposure even more. And having these items in the classroom also helped our students express themselves when we did morning and afternoon check-ins.
Overall, we are extremely grateful to have been able to receive these items. Even though we are not currently in the building with our students face to face, I know that with these items moving forward we will be filly prepared to pick up where we left off and continue to create that safe and healthy classroom space for everyone. Thank you all again, you have no idea how much this has truly helped our students during these uncertain times.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Capuano
