We have been working on updating our library. In the last year, we have purchased flexible tables and chairs, a lovely reception area with a couch and stools, and items for a maker space area. Many of our maker space activities are more suited to floor work. Foldable floor chairs are the perfect extra seating solution for reading and maker space work. We would love to see students using our tables and chairs for research projects and classwork, while other students use maker space materials and still other students find a cozy spot to enjoy reading a good book. Creating distinct spaces for these activities will increase teacher buy-in to all the library has to offer. How wonderful it will be to have teacher's reward student behavior/progress with time in the library for silent sustained reading or to create a project of their choice! We know that there is a high correlation between students who develop a habit of reading everyday and higher academic achievement.
