  • Nonfiction Library For Children With Disabilities

    Funded Jul 22, 2014

First of all, thank you so much to generously provide Time for Kids and nonfiction reading package! My students love to see the real photos of things, people and places in TFK and the nonfiction cards. The nonfiction cards are sturdy enough for my autistic students and participate. My students read at least two nonfiction cards each week and responding to the article in writing at the end of each lesson. I am using TFK along with social studies lesson and it works! They are learning about map reading skills, continents, oceans and directions. I can't thank enough to you. When my project gets funded, it means more than just getting the resources I am really grateful to know that there so many people who care about my students with disabilities and I am encouraged by your generosity!

    Again, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Song

  • Really Need a Laminator!

    Funded Apr 7, 2014

    Hi

First of all, I want to apologize the delay of sending you the thank you message from us! We were busy at the end of the year with all the testing and report cards.

As you can see in the pictures, I created a word wall with the Fitzgerald Keys. I laminated all the picture symbols and I am so happy to know that it will last for a long time. Since I have the laminator, I can create the picture symbols and laminate them during my prep (it took me two days usually) and it enhanced my instruction! My students are learning a lot of new words and getting used to using the color-coding system. Now half of them are making a simple sentence independently. Thank you much for making a great impact!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Song

My students are learning Korean as foreign language. I teach 150 students every day in my school. 70 percent of them are non native speakers of Korean and 30 percent of them are Korean Americans. Amongst them are students with special needs. They come from all parts of Queens with various language, cultural, economic, and education backgrounds. I have to differentiate all my lessons to teach all of them. I plan many interactive games, cultural fair, computer lab, group mini projects and cooking so that everyone in my class can contribute and enjoy learning Korean language and culture.
