  • I Am an Author!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my students. I had to wait until this school year since I received this donation at the end of last school year. My students are learning Korean as a foreign language and most of my students are not native speakers. It is really hard for them to see how much they have learned until they start writing.

With your donations, my students are creating their own book in various genres and most importantly, they are writing in Korean independently! They are having so much fun creating stories and illustrating the books. After the winter break, we will have our publishing party. We will have a gallery walk and give each other feedback. My students will keep the books and hopefully, they will appreciate your generosity and teachers' hard work. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to carry out this great book project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Song

  • Classroom Supplies for a New Teacher!

    Funded Dec 29, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations for my students and me. I started in high school for the first time and the classroom was so bare and I didn't have much supplies. Since I am teaching 5 periods=150 students, I needed to organize my lesson plans by class. I am using the flash drive to organize all my lessons and materials for each class. And my students are enjoying the color markers and boarders to complete their projects. Your generous donations transformed my barren classroom into full of students' projects. Whoever walks into my class, everyone compliments on the works they see on the walls. All these were possible because of your generosity. Again, thank you so much!

  • Essential Kit for Students with Autism

    Funded Mar 24, 2017

My students love the snacks that you donated! They don't have to get hungry anymore because they get their snack after the lesson. My students are using Picture Exchange System to request their preferred snack item and the Goldfish is the most popular snack so far. I am so happy that they are not eating salty and greasy chips anymore. I am promoting eating healthy snack by adding fruit and vegetable as well. It is hard to change their eating routine but with your generous donations, it became possible to help my students. Thank you so much!”

  • Graphic Novel Library for Students with Autism!

    Funded Feb 6, 2017

Thank you so much of your generous donations so that my students can truly enjoy reading. My students are concrete learners so sometimes it is difficult for them to infer the meaning of certain plots and action from chapter books without any illustrations. However, the TOON Graphics motivated my students to read. As soon as they opened the books, they asked me so many questions about the illustrations of historic figures and buildings and wanted to read the books. I recommended the TOON Graphics to my colleagues for their lessons, too. I really appreciate your donations to us!”

  • PECs and Sensory Toys for Students with Autism

    Funded Feb 9, 2017

First of all, thank you so much on your generous donations! Now my students come to my class and they check their mood meter and they are learning about emotions of themselves and others. Also, they can follow their own schedule during my lesson with already made picture symbols. With sensory toys, they are learning about colors, common objects, food items, shapes and letter sounds. The learning process became more interesting to my students so they are motivated and they are achieving their goals in IEPs. Again, thank you so much!”

  • Small Group Instruction Center for ENL Students with Autism

    Funded May 25, 2016

    Dear Donors,

I can't thank you enough for the table and chairs, pocket chart and clear envelops. Now, my students are working in a small group to improve reading comprehension skills and writing skills in the small group instruction center that you have provided. Each student gets his/her current worksheet from their own pocket chart and work on reading and writing independently with minimal verbal prompts. It is easier for me to organize their work and monitor their progress. The instruction area is organized so students love it!”

  • Earth! Fire! Wind! Heart! Project for Students with Autism

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much of your generous donations! In April, we learned about our planet Earth and my students explored plants, life cycle of a butterfly and desert. Because of your donations, my students could have hands on activities and their participation rate was extremely high! They all wanted to participate in touching, seeing, feeling and smelling the manipulative of life cycle, sand, seeds and leaves. Their favorite activity was experiencing miniature desert zone. They could blow on sand to see the effect of wind on sand and the plant life in desert. It was such a rewarding experience for me as well. Again, thank you so much!!!”

  • Portable Computer Station for Students with Autism

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

I am so happy to tell you that your donation is helping many students. I am teaching ENL to English Language Learners in district 75 and I am working in three different sites. It is a big challenge for me to have a classroom designated only for my students so I didn't have access to Internet. However, now I have this Mac Book Air and my students and I are connected to the world. High school students are learning narrative writing and they are sharing their work through google document so I can perform on going assessment. I can provide feedback immediately and my students don't need to worry about saving documents to USB and print the documents which is really hard to do in their homes. Thank you so much for your generous donations!!!”

  • PECS for Autistic Students Need To Be Laminated!!!

    Funded Dec 5, 2015

Thank you so much for the laminating pouches and other supplies! When my laminating pouches were running low, I was concerned because I am laminating a lot for TEACCH and PECS. Now I am able to laminate according to my lesson plans and I can update the PECS and TEACCH picture symbols. Your donation let my students to be interactive participants in my class. My nonverbal students use PECS throughout the day in class, cafeteria and home. You gave them their voice! I will make a lot more picture symbols for my students. Thank you so much!!!”

  • iPad for Autistic ELLs

    Funded Feb 27, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation so my students can use ipad! I have been using my own ipad so they can have access to brainpop videos, Endless Alphabet, Endless Reader, iWrite and so many educational applications. As I mentioned in my project, some of my students are nonverbal so you provided their voice through Proloquo2go program. I could get the program via our school account so many of them are communicating with the ipad you provided. You mad a huge impact! Again, thank you so much and really sorry for the delay. I had technical issues.”

My students are learning Korean as foreign language. I teach 150 students every day in my school. 70 percent of them are non native speakers of Korean and 30 percent of them are Korean Americans. Amongst them are students with special needs. They come from all parts of Queens with various language, cultural, economic, and education backgrounds. I have to differentiate all my lessons to teach all of them. I plan many interactive games, cultural fair, computer lab, group mini projects and cooking so that everyone in my class can contribute and enjoy learning Korean language and culture.
