In the fifth grade, the school puts a lot of emphasis on nonfiction and expository writing. I am currently having a hard time teaching the standard without a good supply of nonfiction books. My goal is to have a variety of nonfiction books for students to choose from and expand their knowledge of learning. The students are more engaged in reading if they are able to choose a topic that is interesting to them. I have seen first hand how excited my students get to have a book topic they enjoy. I am hoping that having a variety of nonfiction books, my students will grow as great readers and expository writers.
