Classroom Materials for Great Kiddos
Funded Sep 20, 2020Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. With your donations students were able to access literacy learning activities to increase comprehension by building background knowledge and vocabulary. Students loved hearing new read-a-loud stories and seeing the amazing illustrations in the books. My students favorite text was A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee!
Students also loved getting their new take home folders and couldn't wait to decorate the fronts with stickers to add some personality. All students benefitted from everything purchased due to your donation.
As a teacher, thank you so much for your generosity and support for this project.”

Recess Bags to Kill Boredom
Funded Sep 13, 2020Since creating the recess bags you so kindly donated to students have been able to enjoy recess again like they once did in a world before COVID-19 struck. Students start recess by grabbing their individual drawstring bag filled with their own ball, jump rope, and frisbee. During recess students enjoy chasing their ball, tossing their frisbee, or jumping rope.
Students have greatly enjoyed the recess bags to liven up play options during recess on the black top or in the field. When they first got their recess bags students were eager to learn their bag number and now they look forward to getting their bags each day before heading to recess.
My students and I appreciate your kindness and generosity. Thanks for making recess fun again!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Kerns
First Grade Scholastic News
Funded Oct 21, 2019Thank you for choosing to donate to our classroom's Donors Choose project to fund a subscription to Scholastic Magazines. We have received many magazines already and greatly enjoy reading more about topics such as reindeer, people from long ago, gingerbread jobs, and so much more.
Our class likes to use our magazine subscription to supplement science and social studies materials and take a break from our traditional texts. We have read the magazines we have received and participated in the interactive quizzes and games that come with the online subscription to the magazines. Our favorite part of the subscription is watching the extra videos explaining more about the topics that we are reading about in our Scholastic News magazines.
During the month of December we participated in a gingerbread exchange with fifty states. We received a magazine about gingerbread jobs at the same time, perfect timing! We were able to stretch out our gingerbread exchange into a unit of gingerbread reading using our magazines.
We think that the magazines are "cool, we have fun learning using them, and it is nice to learn new things". Thank you again for donating to our class and supporting education.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Kerns
