Each day I have been able to entice students into the Library/Learning Commons as an alternative to waiting in the cafeteria for school to begin. Maker Monday allows students to make items from recycled goods and Tinker Thursday is a time where students can tinker in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities. Students struggled at first to use snap circuit boards to illuminate lights, spin fans, and create music, but each week has engaged them in more elaborate projects. In order to continue to engage students, I would like to expand the STEM activity offerings to include more engineering-type activities. STEM Kits make it easy for me to put the materials out in the morning and set them on a shelf for use at a later time while allowing the Library/Learning Commons area to be used for a variety of acuities. By donating to our project you will not only help to engage students as critical thinkers and problem solvers, you will also be creating the next generation of engineers. Students will have a variety of science and engineering materials to work with on Tinker Thursday which will ultimately allow them to begin the day immersed in learning.
