Quality Curriculum for a New Course
Funded Nov 28, 2023Muchísimas gracias for your donation to the Spanish department at Frankford High School. As two educators are covering the work of three teachers, time is tight and precious. The donations you gifted help me offer engaging resources for my three classes so that each group has level-appropriate activities.
Creating two out of three entire classes from scratch, while teaching them is time-consuming and exhausting. Through your donation, I am able to find resources that already exist that fit the needs of my students so that they learn the desired information. My native-speakers class has studied the history of and social issues related to Puerto Rico. We are now reading a book written from the perspective of a Puerto Rican teen. Spanish 1 is building its foundation of key vocabulary. One of my cohorts have both groups of students in one room, so we work separately together. Thank you for helping my classes and me keep our academic peace.”

Funded May 18, 2022I cannot thank you enough for your generous gift of graphic novels for my classroom library. Students have been excited to check out all of the different options. A few students have been so engaged in books that they couldn't wait to read during our next class and begged to take the book home with them, which they did! Other students have come to my room during their lunch periods to continue reading. It has been a joy to share the love of reading with this new generation. Thank you for helping me accomplish that goal!”

Funded Feb 4, 2022Thank you so very much for your generosity in donating to the Spanish business center. The decorations spruced up the classroom in an electrifying way -which is especially helpful in the winter months. The pictures include examples of the laminator in action for the decorations, but it has mainly been used for academic materials and the students love to use it! The chair picture shows the stark contrast of the chair that was being used versus its replacement. It's a whole new world here.
The students and I are honored by your generosity.”

Language Learning Novels in Spanish
Funded Dec 1, 2021Thank you very much for your generous gift in providing books and masks for my students! Students I don't even teach come to my room to get a black mask as they are more comfortable than the ones provided by the school.
As a class, we have already read "El Escape Cubano", which the students thoroughly enjoyed. Students read about the experience of a young boy in the '80s whose father decided to leave Castro's regime in Cuba and take a raft to Florida, leaving behind his mother who did not want to travel. Students anxiously read to find out what would happen.
Before the school year ends, we will read "Fiesta Fatal" -about a Mexican girl whose quinceñera is interrupted by cartel activity and must flee the country.
These cultural experiences would not be possible without your generosity. We all thank you!”

Funded Nov 11, 2019My students and I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation that allowed us to have headphones for each student. This has permitted students to work at their own pace for audio tours and listening comprehension activities in Spanish. Additionally, it has allowed students to listen to their own music as they complete online activities. In all of these scenarios, the headphones have maintained the calm environment that I worked so hard to establish.
When I first introduced the students to the headphones, their shock came in waves. First, they could not believe that I had headphones for them to begin with -as they do not have them in other classes. Next, they were shocked when I explained how people who didn't know them gave their own money for them to have a better academic experience. It was a beautiful moment to witness them internalized the kindness of strangers. You truly have made an impact on them, and it shows in how well they take care of the headphones.
I look forward to how I can continue to challenge students at their varied academic levels with these tools. Additionally, I look forward to showing my future students a practical way on how the kindness of strangers can impact them -and how they can do the same.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lankford
