  • Reading Buddies

    Funded Nov 2, 2023

Thank you again for contributing to our class project. Child Development students were able to visit kindergarten classes at a local elementary school and spend an afternoon of reading and fellowship. Your support allowed high school students the opportunity to gift each kindergarten student two books and homemade crayons. Students were excited to take these items home to share with their family.

High School reading buddies allows kindergarten students to see what being a fluent reader looks like as they observed their older student buddy demonstrating reading skills. Reading buddies also allowed older students to serve as positive role models for the elementary students. My students were able to practice social-emotional skills such as patience and empathy when working with their buddy. It was so much fun to observe the interactions between the older and younger students. All students were engaged and had a fun time.

Thank you again for helping us promote reading and community.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sawyers

  • Ready, Set, Read !

    Funded Aug 29, 2022

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. Your gift helped purchase books to start my own classroom library. Having a classroom library has made books readily available for students to read in study hall and to check out and take home to read.

Since having a library in my classroom, I have seen students reading more and more. Having a variety of books available has encouraged students to read something other than what is assigned in their classes. My students are talking with each other and with me about what they are reading. We are all passing books around and suggesting titles to read next. Students have even donated books to the classroom library.

Thank you again for supporting my classroom. It makes me happy to see students take an interest in reading. I love having a diverse selection of books in my room, there is something for every student.”

  • Crime Scene Kitchen - A Safety Investigation

    Funded Feb 8, 2022

Thank you for helping me create a fun classroom lesson on kitchen safety. My students loved this activity.

Using the materials that you funded, I was able to create a "crime scene" kitchen. Students had fun playing detective and identifying various safety and sanitation hazards in the kitchen. After investigating the kitchen, students created news stories about what happened in the kitchen. They had a blast reporting live (microphone and all) from the crime scene kitchen.

Thank you again for supporting my students. This was a fun and engaging way for independent living students to explore kitchen safety. We all loved it.”

  • Vision Boards to Help Students Achieve Their Goals

    Funded May 4, 2021

Thank you for providing the supplies that students needed to create their very own vision boards. The activity encouraged students to think about what they really want in life. My students had fun putting their goals into a visual format. Students were appreciative of the materials and the opportunity for a hands-on activity. The supplies allowed students to be more creative when creating their vision boards. Students will be able to take their boards home. Students can see their vision boards each day to remind them to stay on track and motivate them to work hard towards their goals. Thank you again for your contribution to my classroom.”

  • Help Update Our Outdated Kitchen Lab

    Funded Aug 6, 2020

Thank you for your gift of new kitchen supplies and utensils. Your generous gift has allowed my students the opportunity to practice their basic cooking skills and kitchen safety and sanitation. Allowing students to get hands-on experience keeps them engaged and excited in the classroom.

My students were so excited about all the new kitchen supplies. They have been able to use them to make breakfast foods, healthy snacks, tacos, and desserts. They can't wait to continue to practice their culinary skills with all the new supplies.

Next semester, I teach an Independent Living course. I am excited to share all the new kitchen supplies with the students enrolled in that class. Thanks to you, students will get to practice skills in the kitchen that will improve their independence. They will also get to practice food safety and sanitation skills that they can use to obtain employment in the food service industry.

Thank you again for your generosity. Your donation is greatly appreciated by both me and my students.”

  • New CTE Program

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom.  Your donation has helped make my classroom a fun, exciting, and engaging learning environment.  The students were super excited to see all the donated materials.  Your donation has helped my students learn by playing a budget simulation game, hands-on finance activities, participating in team building activities, creating their own Maslow's hierarchy projects, career presentations, mental health presentations, and participate in community service opportunities.  My students have collected items for local homeless shelters and have volunteered to provide childcare and children's activities at local homeless shelters.  They also helped the shelter prepare for a Fundraising Gala by planning, setting up, and actually working the event.  My Independent Living Students have learned valuable daily life skills in financial planning, securing and maintaining housing, applying and interviewing for employment, and managing their own budget and checking account. We have worked on basic cooking skills, nutrition, and kitchen safety, Human Services classes have learned all about community services, mental health, psychology, and most importantly empathy. Your donations have helped me to be creative with my lesson planning. This is my first year teaching and I am excited to continue to create a fun and interactive learning experience for my students. Thank you again for your gift.”

I am excited to offer new courses in Human Services and Independent Living. We are learning through hands on service opportuntiies. They are studying human development, nutrition, mental health, and learning all about employment opportunities in the Human Services field. My independent living students are learning basic life skills to ensure they can successfully live on their own following graduation. Please help me to provide my students with an amazing place to learn.
