My students' math skills have been measured below grade level, making it difficult for them to access the general education math curriculum without support. Repetition is key. The individual whiteboards with gridlines will give my students an opportunity to practice graphing and problem-solving skills as many times as needed. The larger magnetic coordinate grids are perfect for group work that can be done at the large whiteboard at the front of the room. This gives students who have difficulty sustaining attention a chance to stand up and move around the room. It is also a wonderful opportunity for students to share their work and critique the work of others.
My students are able to be successful in math if they are given the right support and tools to succeed. I provide a hands-on, interactive, cooperative learning environment that focuses on skill mastery and finding the joy in math. At the beginning of a new school year, many students report that math is their least favorite subject. By the end of the year, many of those same students tell me that they now enjoy math because they feel successful in my class.
