I have seen a tremendous growth in my students' learning of mathematical concepts this year since I started using a new curriculum designed for third through fifth graders. The curriculum uses a lot of games and manipulatives, including Base-10 blocks, number cards, place value cards, fraction wheels and dice. I've been using whatever items I can find or create to get the supplies needed for each student, including an incomplete set of Base-10 blocks my mom acquired when she retired six years ago. Unfortunately, I don't have enough for each group to be completely successful; most often my students have to draw on paper what it would look like if they had the necessary materials. These donations will help my students every day as they use these manipulatives to engage in their lessons while showing what they are learning, and collaborating with their peers. They are in the practice of doing this now, but about half of my students still struggle with the abstract concepts. I believe these manipulatives will assist my students in grasping a deeper understanding of place value and regrouping from one place to another, from thousandths to millions.
