As a special education teacher I believe I have different kinds of learners: visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. I chose a few materials to get my collection started to be able to reach each student through their preferred learning modes. Who said learning couldn’t be fun? This is exactly the environment that I would like to create in my classroom, fun , the non-traditional approach to teaching . I want my students to take ownership of their learning and make advancements that they feel they were able to achieve on their own, many of which feel they cannot achieve in the general Ed classroom because of their disability. In my classroom I have limited resources to help my students. I requested headphones due to the fact that only one side of the headphone is functioning properly. I believe having students plug into the computer will help them to focus on their lesson and not be distracted by their table mates and feel rushed to catch up with their friends on a particular lesson. I requested the activity mats and sight word steps to help get the wiggles out and to help the concepts being taught stay in their long term memory. I truly believe that when a lesson is taught using a fun activity, students retain the information because the practice is “meaningful” . This is the goal I want my students to reach , is to carry on the information throughout their educational careers and not forget a skill during their summer breaks. In addition, I want my students to be able to have a cozy area to practice their reading skills and a place to unwind if they have been having a rough day.
