The Dri-FIT shirts I am requesting will provide our female students with exercise clothes to use during P.E. Currently, none of my 7th grade students have P.E. clothes. The long sleeve Dri-FIT shirts, in particular, will help my female students because our school is located in the desert. The long sleeves not only will prevent my students from getting sunburn when running out in the sun when it gets into the 90+ degree weather (about 80% of our school year), but they will keep my students warm when running outside in the colder times of year. Also, our school has some of the lowest student performance rates for physical fitness; for example, I only have two out 29 students who can currently do a single push up correctly! Also, a majority of our students come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and qualify for free and reduced lunch. By having comfortable shirts for them to wear when running, my female students will feel more confident about running in front of their peers and more excited to run because they will not be all stinky for the rest of the day (they can change into their running shirts during P.E. and then change back to their day clothes after) and because no one will know that they do not have a P.E. shirt because they cannot afford it. We are striving for a healthier student body that has a healthy body image and I know these shirts will make a positive difference for my students during P.E., starting with the girls and then the boys!
