Having these materials will allow my students to be on the same playing field as students who do not attend a Title I school. In addition, many of my students are artistically inclined and desire to show and share their knowledge of civic and economic responsibility to their school and their home communities. For example, one of the project-based learning activities is when the students do research on a President of the United States and they create collages on one side and on the back side, they put their research. In addition, there is a project that the students do when they research one of the assigned Supreme Court cases and they are to create a 1-page poster with all of the information about the assigned case. In economics, one of the projects that the students complete has two parts. The first part is they create a business using the factors of production and the second part is they create a plan for how they would start the business, how much it would cost in renting or building a location, for the equipment for the business, pay for the employees, advertising on TV, radio and social media would cost. All students deserve to express their knowledge creatively no matter their zip code. Students who show their knowledge creativity often grow up to be future astronauts, doctors, lawyers, teachers, and generally awesome human beings! Art, like no other subject, pushes students to become creative, dynamic, and out of the box thinkers. This is exactly the type of critical thinking that the world needs!
