Decodable Texts
Funded Jul 13, 2021It has been four months since your generosity has helped my project get fully funded. And it has been two months since the start of the school year. Over the past two months, the materials donated by you, mainly decodable texts, have gotten great use!
We have been working hard on letter sounds and the decodable texts lend themselves to these sounds to allow for my students to feel successful as readers! Just about all the words in the books are three letters and include a short vowel. This means that students are equipped when they open a book and are put up to the task of decoding.
We have been reading independently, as partners, and in small groups. Students have built their stamina and are truly developing a love of reading and reader identities! I cannot thank you enough for your priceless contributions!”

Growing Readers
Funded Jun 23, 2020The materials you generously donated to my students are still enhancing their learning, despite the fully remote school year. I was able to put many of the donations into home kits. One of the students favorite materials is the whiteboard sleeves. We use these every day! We use them as whiteboards and also to fill out many templates sent home. I truly appreciate your generosity! My students and I are looking forward to using the other materials, such as the blocks and magnet tiles once we are safely back in our classrooms. Thank you again for your support. It means the world!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Munnelly
Building Reading Lives!
Funded Oct 27, 2019It is hard to put into words the impact your generosity has had on my students. The majority of my them do not have the resources to read at home or visit local libraries. Also, as a first year teacher I do not have a very full or engaging library to offer my students and teachers are responsible for building their own libraries. With all that being said, the reading curriculum at my school begins with a unit called "Building A Reading Life." It expects that students are reading at school and at home for 20 minutes each at least. It is easy to understand the importance of this but hard to expect it of students without necessary resources.
Since receiving the new books, students have begun to look forward to reading. They can not wait to open their books. I teach a lesson and then the students are able to go and apply the new skills independently using a book that is at their level and of interest to them. They have been working on giving themselves comprehension checks, making predictions, retelling, and making "mind movies."
My students who are below grade-level in reading are greatly benefiting from your generous donations. I had an especially low number of engaging books for these students. They are loving books such as Fly Guy and Elephant and Piggie and are making progress and taking pride in their reading.
Just this past Friday, a student asked if he could take one of the new books, Bird and Squirrel, home for the weekend and told me that, "He was going to become a reader this year!"”
With gratitude,
Ms. Munnelly
