Books and supplies will enhance the reading program at our High School located in the Youth Correctional Facility. A variety of reading options are valuable resources in motivating these teenagers to read. Teaching supplies are also necessary for organizing records, lesson plans, and teaching materials. I believe that your support will help these students to create a better life for themselves. Building a captivating school library will help us transform reluctant readers into readers. Our pupils are in the ideal situation to catch up on the education that has eluded them. They come to school drug and alcohol-free, with a night of good sleep, well-fed and alert. Missing school is not an option. We give all incoming students a battery of reading assessments to determine their reading level; our program targets students who score below grade level. These students are tutored four times a week, using the researched-based, University of Utah Reading Higher-Steps Program. The data we collect has shown that students gain an average of 1.7-grade levels in 33 sessions. It is fun to show the students their growth and their ability to become good readers. Your aid will help our at-risk students work towards a better future.
