  • Young Meteorologists Need Organized Tools and Sensory Breaks!

    Funded Dec 7, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My classroom is much more organized now. This really makes transitions and clean up quick and easy, freeing up more time for learning!

My students were SO excited when they saw the new fidgets and extra calming corners. When more than one student needs a break, I now have the space for them to go. The students come back to the lessons in the green zone and ready to learn. The fidgets give the students exactly what they need to get that extra energy out while still focusing on the lessons.

The students really enjoyed feeling like 'real' meteorologists during our weather unit. They were able to actually practice measuring the temperature, rain fall, and wind speed instead of simply watching a video. The hands-on opportunities left a much bigger impact on their learning.”

    Ms. Fleming

  • Organized STEAM Spaces for Amazing STEAM Projects

    Funded Nov 5, 2022

Thank you so much for helping me provide my students with the materials we need to be organized and focus on building our STEAM skills. Every time I open the STEAM Study corner for the first time with a new class, I hear "Cool!" "She got new stuff!" among many other excited comments.

Now that I have clear bins, the students have been able to choose what they want to use and clean up much more efficiently, opening valuable time for other learning. My new bookshelf is at their height and prominently displayed instead of tucked on the bottom shelf in a corner. It gets used so much more often now and the students are easily able to find books that they are interested in and at their level.

The large white pieces of paper and light filters really improved my 'Spotlight' lesson. The students are challenged to figure out how to create a white light when the white spotlight at a play breaks and only red, green, and blue are left. I originally had enough supplies to demonstrate mixing light to the whole class. Once I got the filters and cut them down to size, the students were able to work in small teams to make their own discoveries about mixing light and they learned so much more!

Thank you for making these improvements happen!”

  • Early Engineers Love Flexible Seating to Boost Their Creativity!

    Funded Feb 22, 2022

Thank you so much for helping me provide my students with flexible seating. They were so excited when I first introduced the flexible seating. They couldn't wait to try each tool and describe which one would be the most helpful for them!

I have several students who like to lean back in their chairs and having the wobble cushions and wobble stools provides them a much safer way to move their bodies. We've developed a signal when I can see a student is moving unsafely with their chair, and they go choose a better option from my flexible seating corner. Many students are great about knowing this need all on their own and trading out their seats right away.

I have loved seeing some of this students who used to struggle with trying to focus on keeping their bodies calm be able to move like they need to, freeing up their focus for the lesson. Our most recent lesson was about how colors mix with light. The students were so engaged and able to have autonomy over their own bodies and it was so wonderful to watch the excited learning happen!”

  • Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Students Need STEAM Activities, Too!

    Funded Oct 1, 2021

Thank you so much for helping me provide my PreK and K students with developmentally appropriate materials for their station time. They were so excited to get to practice both their fine and gross motor skills through the handwriting practice cards, sorting games, and especially the variety of engineering tools.

Each time I introduced a new option for station time I was met with cheers and so much excitement to get to use the new supplies. It has made me so happy to get to watch them learn so much through play. The duplos, gears, and pegs are all a huge hit. They love working together to build towers taller than themselves. I can hear the pride in their voices when they share their successes with me.

Thank you for helping me to provide these students with such amazing learning opportunities!”

  • Future Engineers and Coders Begin With Lego WeDo Kits!

    Funded Feb 25, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donations! My students have been working so hard to create models of satellites and gliders out of found materials like cardboard and egg cartons. They (and I) are so excited to take their learning to the next level by incorporating coding into their creations. I cannot wait to see how these Lego WeDo 2.0 kits help them bring their ideas to life!”

  • Read Alouds for Future Engineers

    Funded Nov 5, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations. With your support I have been able to turn my classroom into a more welcoming space for my K-4 students. When they get choice time, they are so excited to read the books that your donations provided. It has been amazing to see them make stronger connections to the ideas of being engineers through the lessons centered around "Izzy Peck, Architect" and "Be a Maker." I even got a positive review from my principal about the overall feel of the classroom after I added the books to the windowsill. Everyone is so happy with the books and document camera and most importantly, my students have benefited through stronger engagement in the lessons!”

My students love to read. I want to take this love of reading and integrate it into my engineering classroom. I inherited several large engineering and aerospace themed books with my classroom. While these have interesting photographs to look at, the text is not very accessible to my K-4 students. Every time I give students a chance to read independently, I get the question, "Where are the books that I can read by myself?" The books that I have chosen will introduce my students to the ideas of noticing problems in the world, then working to solve those problems in a student-friendly way. The books will be added to my library for early finishers or choice time. Many of the books will also be used to tie in to classroom engineering lessons. First, I'll use the document camera during a read aloud so the whole class can see the book. Then, we will dive into discussing real world problems, brainstorming ideas to solve those problems, planning a solution, and finally building and testing that solution!
