I believe it is important to set up a classroom that is centered around the students. As a teacher entering the classroom mid year, it is important to set up procedures and expectations to help students stay organized and be responsible for their own learning. Moreover, the classroom should be filled with materials that foster a student-centered and collaborative learning environment.
In my classroom, I strive to reach every student and cater to their different learning styles by providing them with many opportunities to showcase their skills and knowledge.
The resources I selected will provide more classroom organization for my students and help create a welcoming learning environment. For instance, the rolling cart will contain handouts for the day, extra scratch paper, and construction paper for projects. The bookcase will be the area that students can store their books and binders until next class. Finally, after the students have finished class work, projects, or assessments, they can turn them in to the corresponding shelf in the in the purple organizer. Beside the organizer will be the hole punch and weave basket with work that students can pick up on their way out of class to put in their binders. All of these storage items will help the students stay organized so that they can grab their materials and begin working efficiently.
The supplies will be used in many of the regular activities in my classroom such as analyzing documents (highlighters and plastic cover sheets), creating one pagers or infographics (markers and pencils), and rigorous inquiries about complex topics (all supplies).
To get the students excited about the subject and learning new skills, I will use the border and flags to create a classroom that is world history themed and encourages a deeper interest in history.
