When I was a small child my mother instilled in me a love of reading. Reading daily is a cherished time for me. I strive each year to develop a love of reading in all of my students.
The sky is the limit for strong readers. I will use the collection of books to replace old books from my classroom as we prepare to move into a new building. Many of the books will be used for read aloud time and will help me share information as well as engage my students in listening comprehension. These books, along with the mindfulness materials, will me me focus my instruction into growing strong readers.
In my classroom my students will have a larger text selection to read from and this will help with our growth in social emotional learning lessons so students see real life examples. The lessons will transfer over into positive behavior in the classroom and beyond.
One example will be when we focus on kindness, I will be able to use the books listed to help facilitate this concept in a more concrete way. The other books will help me develop additional social skills that are necessary for a student's success in working with others. Using and developing these necessary skills in my classroom will help my students be more successful professionals as adults.
