Reading is not a natural process, like walking or talking. Children need to be taught to read. They need to practice and have tools at their disposal to help them during this unnatural process. Most importantly, they need leveled books so that they can read successfully at their level, without frustration. Leveled books are imperative for teaching the love of reading. In Kindergarten the learning needs of students spreads the gamut. Some students don't know their letters, while others are ready to read. As an educator, I strive and demand that I reach each student on their level. It is my goal for each child to feel successful, yet challenged, it is a fine balance. We need to reach 24 students in 24 different ways. A leveled library will assist us tremendously in reaching our goal.
