In the 21st century classroom technology is everywhere and is used daily. Teachers are using promethean boards, clickers, doc-cams, their laptop, student laptops, iPads, and more -- but what happens when the device that allows students to see everything goes out? This is my story. Having an effective visual aid helps keep students attention, gives them detail on the subject matter, and provides a clear display for students to reference throughout class for daily activities or labs. Having a projector in the classroom would benefit every student in class, and would also leave me feeling more confident that my students are engaged and learning. My students view the promethean board every day to see the agenda, reminders, chemistry notes, examples, videos, and practice -- it is the focal point of the classroom! My promethean board has been out for a month and there is no visible fix in the near future. I am hoping to give my students a more reasonable visual than my hand-written notes and drawings and hence am requesting a projector. It may seem like an odd addition, but I'm also asking for 10 scientific calculators. Why 10? They're expensive! Students use them regularly in science for a full semester. Some students don't have them and may not afford to get one. One of my goals is to limit the barriers to learning that my students face - one of them is simply having the right materials.
