The materials that I am requesting are desperately needed for our small reading group literature circles, as well as our targeted sound small reading groups. In our second grade, we look at the reading strengths and struggles of each child in each class. We then group our students together to receive instruction in targeted areas where they have "holes" or in areas where they need enrichment. Students use chapter books weekly to enrich their comprehension through discussion and writing in a small reading group. However, we have very few sets of chapter books for students to read. The books that I have requested are high-interest with rich vocabulary that I know my students will be able to relate to, enjoy, and learn from at the same time. Students who need greater help on individual sounds they are "missing" will use their whiteboards and erasers to write words with the spelling patterns they are focusing on in their reading groups. Right now we are using paper in sheet protectors, and they don't do the job quite as well!
