Increasing my classroom library with books like these will allow my students to be able to see themselves in their books, whether it be based on their race, gender or sexuality. Students need to experience reading through the perspective of an author that they can relate to, which will foster their motivation to read and begin to enhance their love for reading. Books have changed my life as a teacher. I want students to have that same experience and know that reading is a safe place, full of enjoyment, learning, imagination and creativity. Daily Choice Reading: Additional to our classroom novels, students will be reading ten minutes everyday a text of their choice. We will hold book talks, student conferences, check ins and mini-projects on their choice reading books. Students will shine as they use critical thinking and analysis skills in connection with reading. My goal is for students to see reading an escape, outlet or safe space for them to feel more confident in themselves and their abilities. Thank you all for always supporting me and allowing me to share my stories with you!
