  • Act it Out!

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you so much for funding my project! My students are going to be thrilled when I share the news. I can't wait to share pictures of the creativity, collaboration, and learning in action! These tools will improve my practice and have a positive impact on my students academic, social, and emotional health.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nicolina Botelho

  • Create a Cozy Counseling Space in NYC!

    Funded Sep 26, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donations to this project. My students were thrilled to help unpack and decide how to use these wonderful materials! In the photos, you can see students using the colorful trays, animal figurines, and imitation snow. These moments were incredibly powerful experiences where students were able to role-play problem solving skills, practice sharing their feelings, and develop new friendships through play.

These materials also helped me and our school social worker build and organize our Social-Emotional Learning library. These books have driven countless conversations about the importance and value of cultural diversity in our school. They have also been a resources for teachers who need materials to support a SEL lesson.

So far this year, we have had about 100 students access these materials during counseling sessions, group sessions, individual social-emotional check ins, and for Fun Friday play time. It has been so wonderful to see my students enjoy these materials, and I know they will enjoy them for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nicolina Botelho

Students who receive counseling services on their IEPs will have the most access to these materials. These students need the most targeted social-emotional support to succeed at school. This space will be a haven for them to explore and learn about themselves and their relationships. Students who have been impacted by COVID-19 will also use this space as a way to find support from our social worker and school counselor (me!) These students will work on building social skills and emotion regulation skills as they transition back to school. Ultimately, all the students who attend our small but growing school in NYC will have access to these materials!
