I want to bring in a guest speaker that will help students explore their background and identity, and put those skills and learning into their writing. The Kids N Culture workshop series starts with the story of self, and how love and understanding starts from within. The workshop then has students explore identities outside of their own, and finally how to advocate for those who are often oppressed just for who they are. Our students need to be writing at a high rigor at all times, but when it comes to telling their own story they often fall short. This workshop series will help students craft their story and use the writing for college entrance exams, cover letters, and even language to be used in interviews for their future careers. This type of "real-world" skill application is crucial for our upper class students, especially as the "real-world" is right around the corner.
