This project is to equip a Culinary Club at the ADHS in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. We have 16 10th and 11th graders who have signed up to learn to cook culturally significant dishes (think, e.g., gumbo, paella) and learn about how these dishes reflect cultural and geographic conditions in their places of origin. We've been studying and sampling the foods, and now we need the equipment to practice preparing the dishes. We need pots and pans (like the Calphalon sets, the Lodge dutch ovens, and the T-Fal jumbo cooker), knives and utensils (spatulas, the OXO sets), mixing bowls, electric burners (Cadco), cutting boards--the works! My goal is to have enough cooking stations running so that every student will have some hands-on experience in each weekly club meeting.
