Primary sources are the absolute best way to understand history the way that it truly happened. However, those primary sources require context and a means to present that context in way that makes its digestible. Zinn's work does this brilliantly without glossing over the hard parts. Every time students have engaged with a topic through this text, their connection and comprehension has been measurably improved. Right now, our library has ten copies of this text, which means we use them infrequently, and generally in some sort of stations arrangement. This becomes challenging because students read at different speeds. More copies of this text would open the possibility for more frequent use. This would allow students more time to read the chapters, rather than take notes, before analyzing primary sources from the era they are studying.
