  • Be Responsible...Be Respectful...Be Safe....Be a Donor! (Part 2)

    Funded May 4, 2024

Thank you for your support on this project! The supplies we were able to purchase went directly to our School Store; every day, students earn points by being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe. At the end of the month, the School Store opens, and they can redeem their points for awesome prizes. We really wanted to make sure the prizes were of interest to the students in order to show that we care about their efforts.

Our students' faces lit up when they saw the store fully stocked--which we were able to do with your donations! It felt great to be able to have a fully stocked store with items the students are interested in.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Green

  • Be Responsible...Be Respectful...Be Safe....Be a Donor!

    Funded Jan 11, 2024

Being able to have a fully-stocked School Store with the items that students' requested made the February School Store opening the best one yet! Usually by the end of the day, we are low on inventory, but thanks to this Donors Choose project, we were stocked the entire day!

Seeing students faces light up and hearing them cheer when they saw certain items put a smile on everyone's face. They couldn't decide which item to purchase because there were so many good options!

That's exactly how we want each monthly store opening to go, but it is difficult to achieve when we do not have the resources. That is why we are so thankful for you, donors, because we could finally have a full store filled with items that students hand-picked. We appreciate your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Green

  • Supporting ESL Students through Arts and Crafts!

    Funded Oct 15, 2019

From the beginning of our Donors Choose journey, my students were so excited. Every week we would watch the donation amount rise until we reached our goal. When the materials finally arrived, the girls joyfully screamed and couldn't wait to dig into all the crafts. They couldn't believe that people they didn't even know would want to contribute to our project and help them have a successful and fun Girls Club.

So far, the calendars and tote bags have been a huge hit. The girls enjoyed filling in the calendars with their friends' birthdays, important dates, and holidays. We also included national holidays from their home countries such as Honduras, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. The girls loved decorating the tote bags with the paint we received. It was such a joy to see how creative the girls can be.

As most of the girls in the Lunch Club are 5th graders and will graduate in June, we are starting to brainstorm how we can use our crafts and incorporate them into the Senior Prom and graduation. The girls really want to showcase what we have been working on and the skills they have acquired. Stay tuned!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Green

What better way to build camaraderie and life-long friendships than a monthly Arts and Crafts lunch group for girls! My students always ask to come to my room during their lunch period, but I never have anything fun for them except dancing to Go Noodle videos. That is why I decided to form a monthly lunch group where they can work on arts and crafts projects in a fun, safe environment full of laughter and creativity. Materials such as Dream Catcher Kits and Perler Beads with stencils will be fun activities for the girls to socialize over. Not to mention the added benefits of building their language skills, as they are ESL students! In particular, my hope is that by working on projects and asking each other for help and ideas, this group can be a comfortable environment for the students who are just learning English to experiment with the English language and begin to learn social language. During our first meeting, we went on social media and gathered ideas about projects to do. So far the girls really want to make dream catchers, glow in the dark fairy jars, lava jars, sand jars slime, perler beads, and more! All the materials requested for this project will help make this lunch group a huge success! Thank you all :)
