  • Water Efficiency In Our Vegetable Garden.

    Funded Jun 26, 2023

Thank you for donating to this project. The supplies you funded have helped our students learn how to efficiently water vegetables, succulents and flowers in the school garden.

All students love helping when boxes for the classroom arrive. They open and together we discuss what each individual item is called and how it is being used. Some students participate by speaking about it, others with language impediments show us how each items is used.

We have used hoses, watering wands and timers for keeping our plants alive.

    Thank you all for donating!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Daniela

  • Compost It!

    Funded Jun 28, 2023

Students and staff were super excited when the boxes arrived. The composters arrived in small pieces with written assembly instructions providing a great assembly activity for my students. Reading the instructions on how to assemble provided a functional reading activity.

Together students selected the tools and worked together as a team to figure out how to use the required tools. When the composters and were assembled, students used their tablets to research which items can be composted.

Students are taking turns filling the composters and turning them.”

  • Let's Grow Milkweed for the Monarchs!

    Funded Jun 12, 2023

We were very excited when the seed packages and growing supplies arrived at school. In groups, students researched how to plant the seeds, how to take care of them and where and when to plant them outside. These preparations provided a functional reading activity.

Students researched what the plants were going to look like and which butterflies they would attract. Finally, students were asked to research how plants native to California benefit the environment and save water for our state.

    We grew many milkweed plants.”

  • Calming Area

    Funded Jan 4, 2023

The students in my school love the outdoor rocking chairs you helped us receive! LOVE THEM!!

Some students verbalize that they want to sit in the chair to actively work through an issue that's on their mind. Others just walk over, sit down and enjoy the movement.

We arranged a few chairs around the blooming Zinnia flowers. These 3 chairs are used by our meditation group. A small group of students sit and rock in these chairs while doing the breathing exercises taught by their therapists and while enjoying the flowers and butterflies.”

    Ms. Daniela

  • Let's Turn It Into Jam!

    Funded Jan 26, 2022

Students and staff were super excited when the boxes with the jam supplies arrived. Together, the class unpacked jam jars, the beautiful pot and ladles. As we unpacked, students were pointing and verbalizing the names of each individual item you donated.

As a team, my students figured out how to use the required tools. As soon as everything was unpacked, the class started the first recipe. They decided to make marmalade out of the oranges harvested in the school garden.

All students participated: some students washed the jars, others juiced the oranges and some stirred the juice and sugar in the pot. Since then, we have made many, many flavors.”

  • Water Our Vegetables, Please!

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Keeping all vegetable plants and flowers watered has always been a big challenge for us. We especially grateful for your donation of watering hoses, soaker hoses and watering wands for our students.

All students were very excited when the boxes arrived. We opened all materials in our classroom and practiced the names of each item.

We then discussed how to use the various hoses in our school garden.

Each student participated when the items you donated were taken outside to use to water vegetables, flowers or trees.”

  • Compost It!

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Students and staff were super excited when the 9 big boxes arrived. The three composters and compost carts arrived in small pieces providing a great assembly activity for my students. Reading the instructions on how to assembly provided a functional reading activity.

All students worked together as a team to figure out how to use the required tools. When composters and carts were assembled, students used their tablets to research what items can be composted.

  • Flowering Bulbs

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Students and staff were very excited when the boxes with bulbs arrived here at school. Your donation brought us tulips, daffodils, ranunculus, and fresia bulbs. The students examined the different kind of bulbs and compared their shapes and sizes.

The students then used tablets and computers available to them in the classroom to determine what the flowers would look like. Mini research projects like this one practice functional writing and reading skills.

Early this year, all bulbs were planted into containers, watered and placed in our greenhouse. Just a few weeks ago, all bulbs were planted into the ground around our school garden.

We can't wait for all of them to bloom.”

  • We Grow It!

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Thank you very much for supporting our plan to grow more flowers in our school garden. Over the years, we noticed increased interest in cut flowers for sale, so my students and I came up with a list of which flowers we could and would grow in our school garden.

Your generosity has made it possible to purchase flower seeds and flower bulbs. Students were very interested in understanding the difference in seeds and bulbs.

We have started planting seeds and bulbs into small containers - it is a very popular activity that all students can participate in.”
