  • Yes, No, Maybe, Sorry

    Funded Aug 30, 2022

NO MAYBE about it, my Team 23 students and families all say YES to thanking you for your generous donations. Because of your kindness and compassion, I was able to send a set of 4 buttons each home in my students' backpacks. Earlier donations had enabled me to order multiple sets of the 4 pack of buttons for my classroom and my studens became quite proficient at using them to participate in class activities. Now my non-verbal students have a voice at school and at home and can engage with family members, friends, and the community at large in a fun and engaging way! They are only SORRY that they cannot thank you in person.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hart

  • YES, NO, MAYBE, SORRY: Communicating with Fun Speech Buttons

    Funded Sep 27, 2021

My non-verbal students love being able to answer questions throughout the school day. Whether it's during Morning Circle, Instructional Time, or just for fun they get to select their chosen response. Because some of the YES, NO, MAYBE, SORRY phrases are a bit snarky, they often pick a "wrong" answer and then laugh because they are so pleased with themselves.

While some of the students are still learning to choose between 2 buttons, others are able to select theirs from all 4. One student in particular who is blind will carefully take each button out of their box, test them to know which button it is and then place all 4 in front of her in a specific array to engage in the lessons.

Class-time is engaging, entertaining, and empowering thanks to your generous donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hart

Initially, these talk buttons be used in the classroom to build an understanding of cause and effect as related to communicative intent. The different phrases are engaging and can be incorporated in many classroom lessons. Currently, I have just one set of these buttons that my students must share. As my students become more proficient and independent, a set of talk buttons will travel to and from school with them so they will be able to express themselves not just at school, but at home and in their community as well.
