The students here at our Texas school are deaf and use American Sign Language (ASL) as their first language. Our school is a bilingual program where they are taught in both ASL and English. In high school department, most of our students are Hispanics and just started school here. Every student has a different level of understanding. It is difficult to teach the students using high school level materials. On a daily basis, our students need to learn English and the contents. Since English is their second language, it is not easy for them to read the textbooks filled with big words. They also have been exposed to insufficient information which caused them to lack prior knowledge. They need to be introduced to basic concepts of geography to understand our world.
