My vision for my classroom is a thriving community of learners who inquire, explore, create, and share. I want my students to be able to make their voices heard-to share their unique ideas, opinions, experiences, and learning with the world. Strong literacy skills are the foundation for this important goal. My students spend time each day working independently or in groups in literacy centers. They engage in activities aligned with their specific learning goals. The use of iPads would allow this learning to be much more engaging, mobile, and interactive. They will use a voice recording and analysis program to independently practice, assess, and monitor their reading fluency and accuracy. They will also learn how to use story telling databases and publishing programs to share their writing and develop oral language and presentation skills. My students will be able to use the iPads to enter online libraries to access engaging texts at their reading level. In addition, students will use programs to strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, and phonics skills in an interactive way. I strongly believe that these materials will provide my students with the learning opportunities they need to enhance their literacy skills. Perhaps more importantly, they will give my students the tools they need to share, interact, and collaborate with each other’s work quickly and creatively.
