Technology is the driving force behind our rapidly changing world today. Cars are becoming more high tech as they are able to self steer, rockets are able to be reused, smart phones continue to become interwoven in our daily lives, even our homes are becoming high tech with wifi devices to control cameras, thermostats, lights, and security. I see coding as the key to all of this technology. I believe that my students can become more engaged with our world with real coding experiences. The coding that I learned almost three decades ago is drastically different than today, however, I believe the logical thinking has remained the same. I would like to provide my students with the ability to learn coding with real robots in the classroom. To see the robots move, interact with the environment, and perform various functions will make our high tech world a little smaller and clearer in the minds of my 4th grade students. I envision teams of students collaborating to achieve a goal in our STEM activities involving coding robots. Learning to take on unfamiliar challenges, learning to grow with failures, learning to become comfortable in difficult situations is my goal for these students. Today's students are tomorrow's scientists, technological innovators, engineers, and mathematicians- STEM!
