As an occupational therapist, my job is to promote students' success in the classroom. I address skills such as handwriting, scissor skills, and self-care skills. Many of my students have attention deficits, visual motor delays, and visual perceptual deficits, which makes it difficult for them to learn at a pace similar to their peers. I have found that my students thrive when learning through the use of virtual outlets. Apps that address handwriting specifically, have captured my students' attention, which has ultimately promoted engagement in therapy sessions. Because of this, I am beginning to see positive strides towards age-appropriate writing skills. I have had to download and use these apps from my personal phone. I have a small phone and screen, therefore, it has been very difficult for my students to take away the full benefits from these apps. The small screen makes it difficult for my students with vision deficits to see the material. Additionally, all of my students have difficulty imitating the letter formation activities that require tracing, because of the small screen. Constant incoming email and call alerts are diverting their attention and hindering their learning. By donating to our project, you will not only contribute to my students' academic and functional success, but you will enable my students to feel proud and accomplished. With this iPad, I will be able to provide the best treatment I can to my students. My goal is to do everything in my power to ensure my students reach their full potential, to realize their worth, and to know that they are capable and SMART!
