  • Coloring Supplies To Help My Creative Students Shine

    Funded Mar 13, 2024

    Thank you so much for your kind donation! The gift of these art supplies has greatly benefitted my students. We mostly utilize these supplies during our "Community Meeting" block of the school day. During this time, we work on community building, social-emotional learning, and celebrating different cultures and holidays. Students have been able to free draw during meditation, design their own Talking Pieces for circles, and create art in response to a book.

    These art supplies are also coming in handy during Social Studies. My students recently read about several young immigrants and created corresponding posters to share with their peers. I am so excited that we can continue this type of hands-on-learning for the rest of the school year.

  • We Should Be Ashamed of Our Shelves

    Thank you again for your very generous gift. My students were very excited to see our "new" library organized and ready for use. In fact, the updated classroom library has been in such high-demand that each homeroom is benefiting from a student-librarian to assist with check-ins and check-out.

    Currently, my students are using the library to research activists and write a report on their chosen person. This connects to texts we recently read about Malala Yousafzai and Jacqueline Woodson. The children love having easy access to the biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs they are reading.

    Our new stools have been especially handy when students meet in small-groups to participate in a book-talk or complete peer revisions and edits.
