  • It's Raining Letters and Numbers!

    Funded Oct 22, 2021

Thank you so much for your support. Thanks to your donations students were able to work in partnerships and independently.

Reading in our classroom was done in three stages: 1. word and sound drills, where students practiced reading sight words and going over letter sounds. 2. Fluency, where the practiced reading short poems and stories. 3. Independent reading, where students read independently or with partners from the books in their book baggies.

The books purchase expanded our class library so students were able to take home books on a weekly basis. The decodable books supported our emergent readers and helped in building reading fluency and confidence.

Thank you for making this school year one to remember.”

    With gratitude,

  • Learning Remotely: Best of Both Worlds

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

First, let me say thank you for taking the time to read and learn about the students at P.S. 20. They are all special in their own way and because of that deserved the opportunity to have the best school year possible under what has been less than normal circumstances. Your generous donations brought my students one step closer to having an awesome year of learning.

With the iPads, students have been able to log in daily to meet with me for our morning meetings, participate in daily lessons, interact with their friends, share stories about their families all from the comforts of their home. Being that I teach Kindergarten, this is a crucial time in their social development. During this time students are learning social norms and while we are not physically in the classrooms, using digital platforms like Zoom via their iPads allows students tons of social interaction on a daily basis. The most exciting thing about these iPads for my students is the independence that it has given them. As teachers we are there to help and guide and to see them take charge of their own learning is amazing! They log in and submit their assignments with no issues. They are using applications like Epic for reading and Seesaw to upload their work. It is amazing to watch really.

While all my students have been impacted by your generosity, the students that have really gravitated to this technology are the students that are new to school and technology. This is their first learning experience and through these iPads, they are off to a strong start because you realized the importance and need that was there. I can't thank you enough. I wish you all well.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Andrews

This year going to school looks a lot different than what we are used to. Some of our students are learning from home and some from inside our schools. The one thing that hasn't change is the importance of making sure students everything they need to learn. This year our students need to have technology like Ipads to support their social, emotional, and academic needs. The Ipads will help students that are learning at home and in the classrooms participate in all areas of learning this school year. Students that are at home can submit assignments on time and continue to interact with their teachers and classmates.
