In our fifth grade ELA classroom, I would like the students to feel that they can learn in any area of the space. In order to accomplish this, I am asking for help to fund flexible seating options, which will increase student focus and engagement. I have students with a variety of learning needs as well; having flexible seating options will help students feel calm, focused, and as productive members of our learning community. I would use the flexible seating options when having discussions about the novels we are reading in my ELA class, during small group time, or as a calming area for students who need a few minutes to gather their thoughts. Having a section of the classroom dedicated to social emotional learning is vital; students can perform their best in the classroom when they have a special place to cope with strong feelings.
