I teach students in the bilingual PPCD classroom (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities). My main emphasis with my Kindergarten students is on Spanish literacy. I want to design literacy centers that are engaging and fun for them. My students do very well with activities that focus on visuals and sounds and connect them to the letters I am teaching. They will enjoy using the syllable puzzle games to practice making and sounding out words. Since the games are fun, they will spend more time focused and practicing the letter sounds. I also would like for my students to be exposed to a wide variety of literature that was written with Latin American culture in mind. I have selected several books that place emphasis on different countries of origin in Latin America so that my students can both connect with their families' heritage and learn about other cultures, all while practicing reading! Most of the books are also bilingual, so we will use them for English language development as well.
