  • Classroom Cleanliness

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Having access to a vacuum in our classroom has been great at teaching our students accountability and ownership. It has made an impact by everyone having a chance to contribute to our school environment and culture. They are taking pride in our classroom community. As a result, our students were excited to have our own classroom vacuum.

The purpose of students cleaning, is to encourage respect for the school and classroom environment. Having readily access to a vacuum has created respect for our classroom and helped our students to feel apart of our classroom community.”

  • Love of Books

    Funded May 7, 2024

First, thank you so much for your generous donations! Having a class set of the same novel has been essential in forming the love of reading. Novel studies are a great way to teach and review important comprehension skills using meaningful authentic literature. Some of the skills that we have been able to learn and review are elements of a story, identifying figurative language and its meaning, applying word work, inferring, main idea, compare and contrast, identifying cause and effect relationships, etc. We have been able to apply all of our 5th grade literature standards, while at the same time enjoying and cultivating a love for reading. With our classroom novels, I have been able to create a love for reading and make sure they understand the key comprehension strategies that they need to be successful.

During our novel studies in the classroom, you can listen to lively and rich discussions about character relationships, point of view, and hear students communicating while supporting their inferences. In the classroom, students are also creating their own questions that are tied to our 5th grade standards that we can answer and discuss. The students have really enjoyed this activity creating engagement and excitement about our novels.

It fills my heart to see and hear the students' excitement for our novels. Often I hear please please please can we do our novel study today? When I announce we are doing our novel study, the students cheer. We started a novel recently, and we were about 5 chapters in and one of our students said, "This is my new favorite book". Another student said, "I have wanted to read this book for a long time, but I haven't been able to read it until now". I am seeing reluctant readers get excited and engaged when we read our novels. Thank you so much for helping me instill the love of reading through novels.”

  • Engaging Math and Science

    Funded Aug 15, 2023

Thank you for your generous donation! Generations Genius has been a big hit in our classroom. When the education video begins, the class starts to sing with the opening song, which is so fun. The engagement in our classroom has increased significantly with Generation Genius.

Generations Genius' videos do an excellent job at conveying key information in math clearly and effectively and at the same time engaging our students. It is a great education tool in the classroom for new concepts. Thank you for making a difference.”

  • Learning Through Chess

    Funded Aug 15, 2023

Thank you so much for your incredibly generous donation! When I announced that we received Chess games for the classroom, our students were so excited and couldn't wait to start playing. They are constantly asking to play, and when I say we can their eyes light up with excitement.

They are so excited to play that they don't even realize that they are building essential skills. Even though students are learning problem-solving, logical thinking, and critical thinking skills while playing chess, they think they are simply playing a game. A game that will create live long skills.”

  • Math Fact Fun with Reflex Math

    Funded Mar 14, 2023

Thank you so much for your amazing generosity! Our students were so excited to use the Reflex Math program. It really helped them to be engage and excited when practicing and learning their math facts. We tracted their progress from when they started the Reflex program watching for growth of 70% from where they started, and all of our students met their goal of achieving 70% growth. Because everyone made their goals, we took our students on a mystery field trip to go skating. It was so much fun and quite a celebration. The growth would not have happened if it wasn't for the Reflex Math program. Thank you so much!”

  • Learning to Love Books through Novel Studies

    Funded Dec 11, 2022

Thank you so much for the amazing novels and novel studies! Our students were able to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to explore literature in the form of a classic novel, Where the Red Fern Grows. Studying novels is a great way for our students to foster a love of reading, and at the same time practice our 5th grade standards. We read our novels together as a class which creates a sense of community in our classroom. I have several students this year that have Dyslexia, and being able to hear and see the words at the same time has been incredibly important to their success and enjoyment in reading this year. We wouldn't have had the opportunity to read and study a classic novel if it wasn't for your generous donation. Thank you!”

  • Engaging Math

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you for the amazing math materials for our classroom! The white boards, pens, eraser socks, and Generation Genius have been a big hit in our classroom. The engagement in our classroom has increased significantly with our new math materials. The white boards, pens, and eraser socks have been instrumental in creating an environment of engagement in the classroom. We have been able to use these materials in our general math class and also our math intervention time. Not only have I been able to quickly assess what our students know, but it has helped me to identify who needs additional help during our intervention time. Generation Genius' videos do an excellent job at conveying key information in math clearly and effectively, and at the same time engaging our students. They quite often look forward to and request to watch Generation Genius videos because they enjoy them so much. As a result, they are very engaged when learning new math concepts or reviewing what they have learned. Thank you for making a difference in our classroom!”

In 5th grade we examine different literature and the point of view of the narrator. The author's perspective changes the events in a story and the reader can look through the the eyes of the writer. During our lesson on narrator's point of view, we read several different fairy tales and books that are from a different perspective. Having the ability to read different perspectives on the same theme helps the students to compare and contrast different points of view. For example the perspective of the wolf, not the view of the pigs. Another good example of different perspectives would be the book series Myth-o-Mania. After our lesson, students create their own story and book from their point of view. Students creating and making their own fractured fairy tale book helps them to see how the author's perspective and events in a story changes depending on the view of the author. Students love to create and share with their peers. The ability to create their own book with art supplies allows them to take ownership of their learning and ensures an exciting and engaged environment.
