My 6th grade classroom was not supplied with any calculators. I was lucky enough to find a set of 8 at the district surplus. Unfortunately, these are not high-functioning calculators and do not accept decimal calculations with multiplication and division. Fraction calculations are also unavailable on the hand-me-downs we have. I would like to supply my classroom with calculators that will actually function on the level the students are functioning on mathematically. A set of new, simple scientific calculators would give my students a fair opportunity to increase their ability to use their resources in math and science, check their work accurately, and explore a tool that will be heavily used in future years.
