Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a pillar of our school climate. SEL is built into our schedule every single day, supporting students growth in self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. These skills are crucial for students to build healthy relationships and understand and regulate their emotions. They deserve the access to tools that will support their growth in these areas, throughout the whole day. "Pop-up Peace Kits" will provide real time support for student emotional regulation and de-escalation. These kits will be small, portable, and tactile, minimizing the time the students spend out of the classroom when they feel upset. The tactile nature of the items appeal to all the five senses, allowing for students to find an item that best suits their needs. The sensory water bottles engages sight and sound- providing a sense of calm and control as students watch the glitter storm when shaken and settle. Mints stimulate taste and smell, shifting focus to the physical experience of enjoying taste and texture of the mint. Playdough supports expression through molding and morphing, while stress balls provide a physical tension release and are easily manipulated. All of these instruments provide starter kits in every classroom that teachers can build on, but ensure that all students have access to simple tools to support their emotional well-being throughout the school day. When students are supported, a peaceful learning environment is cultivated. The "Pop-up" nature of this project ensures that teachers can feel supported with student engagement, accessing a quick and easy kit to redirect a student without sending them to an alternative location to experience their emotions. These are lifelong skills that can be cultivated on a daily basis through the support of "Pop-up Peace Kits"
