These materials, especially the whiteboards and flip charts, will allow me to add more public writing spaces and surfaces to my classroom walls. In my English classes, my students have ample opportunities to write privately, but also to write for each other in a more public way--I use gallery walks in my classroom frequently to give students a chance to get up, move around, and to literally think on their feet. These public writing surfaces also encourage students to read each others' ideas in new ways and gives them a chance to respond to each other in less formal ways.
