All classrooms in public school settings have a variety of students who have a variety of needs. As teachers, we don't choose our students, but we choose how to work with students. Students with special needs often have an easier time participating in small group skill instruction, but have a more difficult time engaging or staying focused in their larger general education classroom. Giving students the opportunity to use flexible seating is a shift with their mindset and gives another tool to help in their classrooms. Flexible seating has been shown to help students with their academic or behavioral needs and gives students control with their learning environment to allow for more successful opportunities. Students with special needs also need positive reinforcement as they work toward their goals. Also, working with a variety of students, chairs need disinfecting between groups of students.
