To students with Autism Spectrum Disorder the world is often overloading them with sensory inputs. My goal in the classroom is to help students to feel as comfortable and safe as possible. Our classroom has a calm down corner where student can relocate to if they are feeling over stimulated. Donating these floor cushions to our classroom will help the students feel more comfortable at times where their senses are overwhelmed. This will help students to center themselves and feel safe so they can continue learning. The calm down area in our classroom is in need of being a little more inviting for students, therefore a comfortable place to sit and do breathing activities can be very beneficial.
