Chamber Music... Let's Play Together!

Our Donor's Choose package included a diverse group of wind instruments and books. The vast majority of our students were able to get their first look at alto recorders, tenor recorders, bass recorders, flutes, clarinets, and even a horn! Getting the opportunity to hold, see, hear, and play instruments we have been talking about all year was very exciting. I immediately noticed that our new resources sparked increased curiosity in orchestral music.

Throughout all my classes, students have begun to approach me with additional questions. They are more interested in exploring the repertoire of various periods, learning the unique characteristics of each instrument, and practicing ensemble playing. Students are thrilled when they realize they are using real Baroque instruments and working through the music of major composers who wrote for them.

The biggest surprise has been a new enthusiasm for composition. Several students have begun to compose for our wind ensemble. Using the books that came with our package, they have taken existing pieces as models for their works. Currently, I am helping them revise and format the music for future concerts. I can't wait to see these up and coming performers and composers continue developing their musicianship. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to connect our students with the world of art!”
