Home Libraries for Remote Home Learning

Funded Jun 9, 2020

The Title 1 students at Harpswell Community School are very grateful for the books you helped us purchase after the Covid-19 outbreak. As schools closed down and attempted virtual learning, many students did not have the hands-on materials they need to engage in learning. My goal was to provide books for each Title 1 student at our school so that he/she could keep reading through the late spring and summer months.

Many of our students do not live in literacy rich households. They did not have a home library to draw from or a way to borrow or purchase books while schools were closed. While we tried holding on-line lessons with on-line books, it was difficult for some students to engage in this more impersonal format. There is nothing like a new book in hand to invite a child to read.

Your help in funding this project demonstrates your generosity toward learning both near and far from your own communities. You put smiles on kids' faces, made them feel important and helped them grow as learners. Thank you!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Martin
