This classroom project was brought to life by Olga Graham Inspiring Teachers Fund and 4 other donors.
The globes were used to complete part of our Global Thinkers project that required the students to select a country or region and create a globe that highlighted that region or country. In addition students had to create a map of that country or region highlighting geographic features and political features.
My ninth grade students were excited to have globes to reference and enjoyed touching the globes to feel the various physical features of the earth and looking at the bright colors of these physical features.
Currently we are working on historical thinking skills. In the future we will use the globes to locate the various countries or regions from our units of study. Its important for my students to be able to identify where on the planet countries are located and the physical features that are within the boundaries of a country. The globes that were so generously donated to us will allow us to enjoy this learning experience.”
As learners of Global History it is important that we have a visual idea of where the places, nations or regions we discuss in global class are located.
The Explorer Globes will supplement all lessons by having groups located where on the globe we are studying in each unit and possibly each lesson.
The goal is for them to create a flag with information about each place, nation or region at the end of each unit that includes: culture, language, religion, historical context and geographic context and one Enduring Issue that particular place, nation and or region is facing.
This project will help them prepare for their Global Regents in the 10th grade and provide them with an enhance understanding of geography.
